- Please tell us a little about yourself and your professional experience.
My name is Dr. Dogan Sahin. I am a dental surgeon. I graduated from Istanbul University — the oldest and one of the largest medical faculties in Turkey. I received my diploma in 2009 and started my studies in 2004. In 2011, I earned a master’s degree in digital implantology. I apply these technologies in my clinic. I worked in Istanbul for five years, then moved to Antalya, and since 2016 I have been running my private practice in my own clinic in Turkey.
- What trainings have you completed and what certificates do you and your team hold?
I have many certificates in the field of aesthetic dentistry and dental implantology. But especially important for me are two certificates from Professor Alper of Istanbul University — in bone grafting and bone tissue transplantation. I also trained in laminated veneers at Yeditepe University with Professor Esra, as well as in digital implantology. I even wrote a 96-page thesis on this topic. This method is also known as guided implant surgery or flapless surgery, which uses minimally invasive approaches.
Veneers: Indications and Treatment Features
- How is veneer placement performed? Are veneers suitable for every patient?
Veneers are one of the most popular aesthetic dentistry treatments today, allowing changes in tooth shape, color, and surface. However, proper patient selection is very important. Jaw structure, tooth proportions, and bite must be suitable for this treatment. In cases of incorrect bite, the result may be unstable. Material choice and laboratory quality are also essential. I prefer the German Emax system, and we use high-quality adhesive materials in our practice. Despite the popularity of veneers on social media, this is not a universal solution — success depends on proper diagnosis and case selection.
- Can we determine from an X-ray whether veneers are suitable?
X-rays are important, but not sufficient. They provide information about tooth roots and general condition, but we also need clinical photos from different angles and bite analysis. Only after a comprehensive evaluation can we decide whether the patient is suitable for treatment.
- How long does veneer treatment take?
About one week is enough.

- How long do veneers last? Do they need to be replaced?
We provide a 10-year guarantee, but with proper care they can last much longer — sometimes even a lifetime. At university, we were taught that if a restoration lasts more than 7 years, it is already considered a successful treatment outcome.

The most important factor is communication between the doctor and the patient. The doctor must listen and understand the patient’s expectations. If this is missing, there will be no trust. Another key factor is the doctor’s experience — not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills. And of course, transparency of treatment is crucial: the patient should receive all information, scans, and medical documents. There are cases where clinics close and patients lose access to their implant records — this is unacceptable.
